Sam Bambery: Songs About Sailors
Ōtautahi guitarslinger Sam Bambery is an introspective character. His debut album “Songs About Sailors” was released last month. Simply composed and largely left in their natural, naked form by producer De Stevens, Bambery’s thoughtful songs tell stories of heartbreak and change. The album explores folk, country, and indie rock influences while balancing Bamberry’s skilled musicianship with the “three chords and the truth” ethos that embraces simple songwriting.
Judah Kelley: Apathy
Having recently relocated to Tāmaki Makaurau, the prodigiously talented singer/songwriter Judah Kelley hits her creative strides on her hotly anticipated latest single, ‘Apathy'. Aided by the slick production of Auckland artist/producer Harry Parsons, Apathy lets us in on Judah’s stream of consciousness as she sorts through her emotions in the wake of a romance that ultimately leads to heartbreak. Newzician caught up with Judah to talk about her new single, and to hear what's on the cards for the exciting young artist.
Adelaide Cara
Adelaide Cara is an Ōtepoti based musician whose dream-pop-meets-grunge sound has enchanted many ears since the release of their debut album ‘How Does This Sound?’. I was fortunate enough to sit down with Adelaide over a cheeky mulled wine to discuss their new solo project, their musical journey, influences, mental health, and leading a whimsical life.
Aro - Tohorā: Music Video Release
The beautiful video for Tohorā, the latest release of bilingual husband and wife duo Aro, sees Charles and Emily Looker (née Rice) team up with director Hattie Adams and producer Ryan Bradley.
Interview: Tahini Bikini - Life’s a Beach
In the wake of their latest release, ‘Life’s a Beach’, Newzician Magazine caught up with Mads from Te Whanganui-a-Tara’s Tahini Bikini to talk about the project and its inception, and to discuss the band’s newest single.
Interview: Josette - Daytona Fair EP
Hot off the release of her first two singles “One Shot” and “Comfort Show”, Newzician was lucky enough to sit down with the wonderful Josette to talk about the upcoming release of her EP, Daytona Fair. The EP is an eclectic mix of exciting new sounds set to reinvigorate the Ōtautahi soundscape. The diverse sound on the record is seamlessly woven together with the aid of Josette’s distinctive vocals, meticulous musicianship, and the polished production of Christchurch producer Wulfie.
RDU Presents: Joe Sampson
This year Joe Sampson, with his new project Joe Sampson & Friends, released Unfinished I, a collection of previously unfinished tracks from his huge back catalogue. They are DIY rock songs that draw from his time fronting the noisy Flying Nun group T54 as well as the janglier, poppier songs of Salad Boys, who he also fronted. Interview by Sam Elliott with photos from Flynn Robson.
