Sugar and Spice, and Everything Nice
Sugar and Spice, and Everything Nice. If these are the ingredients chosen to create the perfect electronic music scene in Christchurch, then Beccie B is Chemical X. Over the last two years, Ōtautahi has played host to a systematic rewiring of the electronic scene, resulting in a flurry of female disc jockeys frequenting a raft of your favourite venues.
DARTZ - The Hardest Working Band In New Zealand
You may have heard of DARTZ, the band from Wellington, New Zealand from one of their many elaborate schemes. Whether it be doing a 24 hour telethon to sell 420 copies of their albums, writing songs about the importance of getting your drugs tested and ‘one outsing’ Captain Cook, or even playing fourteen house parties in one day, it’s safe to assume that the DARTZ boys always have a trick up their sleeve.
The Portside Cowboy Goes Walking Through London Street
Sam Bambery is a Ōtautahi/Christchurch-based musician consistently overthinking his local scene. He released his debut album Songs About Sailors in March this year and is continuing work in the studio for a new album.
Spotlight on: HINA
HINA is the name of Tāmaki Makaurau singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist Amy Boroevich. In 2020, HINA released her debut EP, Muse. Amy’s sound is deeply connected with her own personal identity. The music reflects her own personal journey of self-discovery in a way that is relatable, honest and groovy. Newzician sat down with Amy to discuss how a young indigenous artist navigates Aotearoa’s post-colonial music scene, and her journey from school music nerd to budding young neo-soul sensation.
Rezzy Crooks: The Curse of The Crooks
Are Rezzy Crooks Dunedin’s most cursed band? Rosa sat down with Sam, Jamie, and Toby (missing Josh) from Rezzy Crooks over Zoom to chat about how the band came to be, their musical journey, operating as a band during lockdown, and a conspiracy theory that may or may not involve the government.
The Knews
Sam chats with Cullen about his latest project The Knews, how he got here, songwriting, his inspiration and more.
